I saved my vacation days to enjoy my family’s visit over this past holiday season.  Over many years now my kids and I have gone cross country skiing on Christmas Day.  It has been refreshing and renewed my spirits each year.  This year my daughters bought me skis, poles and boots and my partner knit socks for me and several years ago purchased a lovely set of ski gear.  This just made for a super vacation and lots of good connections.

I also was gifted with a day of downhill skiing at Mt. Hood, Oregon with one daughter and her partner.

So here are some pictures and thoughts about my refreshing, re-creating experience.

Getting-Ready

Getting-Ready

It is just good for the body and soul to be out in nature and exploring.  It is a communion with the self and the earth.

Setting-Off

Setting-Off

To experience the cold on one’s body and not encompassed by a building – to be away from buildings and studying the trees and rocks and formations of the weather – gives one a new sense of design and structure.  A new visioning of how people need to meet their needs and not remove the splendor from nature.

Longmire-Bridge

Longmire-Bridge

When we were cross country skiing and breaking trail, we were working hard and developing our muscular strength in an accomplishment in rhythm with nature.  And then there came the long striding of a purely ZEN MILE.

Oh the joy and conversations one has with the good people who are enjoying nature’s thrills and beauty.  It is nice to be together with one’s children and bridge the separation with activity to connection.

Crash-Landing

To witness the cycle of water first hand and not just have it be a part of the planning commission meeting one is attending – this is our true wealth and builds energy and joy.

Hope you were able to renew your spirits and energies on your last holiday or vacation. I would enjoy your comments about your refreshing adventures.
